Scholarships and Awards

The David Coleman Scholarship
2013-2014

David Coleman University Housing & Dining is proud to announce again this year the David Coleman Scholarship. This $900 scholarship will be awarded to a current residence hall student who has overcome adversity to be successful at The University of Iowa. This adversity can be medical, physical, economic, family circumstance, or other situation the student has overcome to attend and be successful at The University of Iowa. Any current residence hall student may apply for the scholarship, but they must be enrolled for classes during the 2013 fall semester. Students who are currently employed as resident assistants are ineligible for this scholarship.

The application for the David Coleman Scholarship (PDF) is available via the University Housing & Dining web site (housing.uiowa.edu) on or after February 18, 2013 and must be filled out and submitted on-line (Windows Internet Explorer or Mac Mozilla Firefox) to University Housing & Dining by April 8, 2013. The application and reference forms are available in PDF format, which requires Adobe Acrobat Reader . The applicant’s required essay must be submitted via e-mail to housing@uiowa.edu by this deadline as well. Two references must also be completed and submitted by the deadline date to:

These non-family references must be someone close to the applicant and have knowledge of the applicant’s circumstances to comment on the student’s drive to overcome the adversity. The references need not be University employees.

The George L. Droll Award
2013-2014

 

George Droll The George L. Droll Award was established in 1995 in honor of George L. Droll, University of Iowa University Housing Director from 1980-1995 and University Housing employee from 1960 until his death in 1995. Mr. Droll devoted his career to enhancing the living and learning environment in the residence hall system at The University of Iowa. Each year, one residence hall student at The University of Iowa will be selected to receive this award. The recipient chosen will exemplify the characteristics desirable in residence hall students; the recipient must demonstrate good citizenship and have contributed to establishing a positive residence hall community to his/her floor. In the fall at a reception, the student will be given a certificate; in addition, an award of up to $1,500 will be credited to the student's University account to be used toward room and board in the residence halls for the next academic year.

The George L. Droll Award process begins with a nomination. Any student, staff, or faculty person can nominate a student for this award. A nominating statement is required for this process. The nominated student must excel in the areas of residence hall citizenship and community building and must meet additional eligibility criteria. The nominee then responds to an essay question and final selection is made. Additional information and the nomination form are available via the University Housing & Dining web site (housing.uiowa.edu) on or after February 18, 2013 and must be filled out, printed, and submitted by March 15, 2013, to:

The Residential Dining Student Employee Scholarship
2013-2014

University Housing & Dining is proud to announce the 8th annual award of the University Dining Student Employee Scholarship. This $750 scholarship will be awarded to selected individuals who work anywhere within University Dining and meet the required criteria. Six scholarships will be awarded, and the scholarship will be credited to the recipient's University account in the fall of 2013.

The application for the University Dining Student Employee Scholarship is available via the University Housing & Dining web site (housing.uiowa.edu) on or after February 18, 2013 and must be filled out, printed, signed, and submitted by March 29th, 2013 to:
