Iowa is nationally known as "the writing university."
The Iowa Writers Living-Learning Community provides the opportunity for students interested in all types of writing to become acquainted with one another and to explore all the writing resources that are available at Iowa.
The community is ideal for students interested in any number of different styles and applications of writing, including:
- literary writing (poetry, short stories, novels);
- journalism;
- nonfiction writing (essays, memoirs, science writing, technical writing);
- translation;
- drama and film/radio writing;
- public relations; and
- the teaching of writing.
As a member of the Iowa Writers Living-Learning Community, you'll participate in a variety of activities focused on writing, from attending readings to talking with authors, and learn about how best to prepare for a successful career in writing. You'll socialize with other students, faculty, and staff in both formal and informal settings.
