Production Chef

Nationally recognized University Dining Service is seeking a Production Chef to supervise operations of a new Central Cold Food Production Center. Coordinates and participates in the preparation of foods, ensuring quality, timeliness, and cost controls. Determines food production amounts and assignments, ensuring foods are prepared according to standards and at the appointed time. Schedules, trains, supervises and coordinates the work of assigned staff involved in food preparation and service.

Requirements include a Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics, Foods and Nutrition, Institutional Management, Hotel and Restaurant Administration, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Reasonable (1-3 yrs.) experience working in preparation and distribution of foods utilizing the latest techniques and knowledge of trends; some experience (one year minimum) in food service management, including supervising and inventory control; excellent written and verbal communication skills; and ability to obtain and maintain ServSafe certification required.

Salary starts at $37,220 to commensurate, plus excellent University benefits. Director of University Dining, University Housing & Dining

University Housing & Dining at The University of Iowa is seeking an experienced, innovative, and self-motivated individual to lead our nationally recognized operation as the Director of University Dining. University Housing & Dining’s vision is to be a national leader in campus housing and dining, and this position will provide critical leadership toward this vision.

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Student Life/Senior Director of University Housing & Dining, the dining director is responsible for a recently-unified large and complex dining program that is comprised of two residence hall marketplaces serving 1.6 million customers annually, 13 cafes/convenience stores throughout campus, and an in-house catering operation. The director will provide strategic vision for the dining operation, whose income surpassed $22 million in FY11. Specific duties include: develop a nutritional program that is electronically accessible to students; oversee the development and implementation of a marketing plan for the unit; analyze financial performance of all subunits; lead implementation of a new board plan model for residential students; plan for short and long-term capital renewal and sustainability of dining outlets; and attend meetings and conferences to stay abreast of industry trends and evaluate food product offerings.

The successful candidate must have a master’s degree in Institution Management, Dietetics, Hotel and Restaurant Management, Foods and Nutrition or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Extensive experience in managing multi-unit dining operations that include retail, contract and catering operations is also required. Other requirements include considerable experience in budgeting and financial management; reasonable administrative experience in a college or university setting; excellent written and oral communication skills; demonstrated organizational skills and problem-solving ability; demonstrated job related experience with and/or commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in the work environment; proficiency in Microsoft Office computer software applications; working knowledge of computerized food service management programs; and a strong commitment to excellent customer service and teamwork.

A Master’s degree in Counseling, Student Personnel, Higher Education or related area is highly desirable. This is a required professional live-in position and a furnished apartment and a meal plan are provided. The position offers a salary of $32,157 for a 12-month appointment and excellent University benefits.

Assistant Director, Technology Services

University Housing & Dining is seeking an experienced, self-motivated individual to assume the role of Assistant Director, Technology Services. Reporting to the Director of Business & Technology for University Housing & Dining, this position is the lead technology resource for the department. In this role, the position provides management and oversight to the University Housing & Dining technology staff, with responsibility for training, supervision, and evaluation of assigned staff. This position is responsible for leading departmental technology projects, overseeing the support and administration of IT systems, coordinating interfaces between departmental and campus systems, and representing the department in campus-wide technology initiatives.

A qualified candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or an appropriate related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience. Other required qualifications include: full-time experience (typically 7 or more years) in information technology operations involving complex database and system administration functions; knowledge of state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and systems; conceptual knowledge of the databases, applications and systems used by the department; detailed knowledge of modern Windows operating system structures and related security and networking concepts; knowledge of security concepts, support techniques, database administration and system administration skills necessary to support complex applications and databases in a Windows environment; reasonable experience analyzing technology systems and recommending corrective actions and/or system enhancements; ability to write and analyze functional and technical specifications for complex integrated systems; reasonable experience supporting a large group of users with diverse technical skills and needs; ability to create both functional and technical documentation and provide training for users via both one-on-one and group presentations; excellent communication (both written and verbal) skills, including the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical staff; proven ability to direct and develop technical staff, including experience leading project teams; self-motivated with a proven ability to work both independently and as a key part of an effective team; strong analytical and organizational skills; strong customer service and customer relations skills, and demonstrated experience working effectively in a diverse environment.
