Residential Dining Debuts Nutrition Website

To help students and other customers make "Smart Choices for Eating Right," University Housing Residential Dining will unveil an expanded nutrition website on January 26, 2009 at: http://housing.uiowa.edu/departments/residentialdining/menus/index.html.

The site, developed in cooperation with Hawkeye Foodservice Distribution, offers detailed nutritional information on the most popular menu items featured at Burge and Hillcrest Market Places. By listing calorie counts, macronutrient information (total fat, protein, cholesterol, fiber, etc), and essential vitamins and minerals, the website helps customers choose foods appropriate for their dietary needs.

Each Market Place offers a wide variety of menu options from which to choose. Fresh fruits and vegetables, hearty soups, whole grain selections, and lean proteins are available every day. Climbing the Nutrition Pyramid is easy and delicious at the Market Places!

According to Residential Dining Director Greg Black, "Our first priority is the health and well being of our students. The development of the nutritional website came as an extension of our Smart Choices initiative, designed to assist students in making decisions about personal and environmental health. The site can be a great tool for everyone who wants to choose a balanced diet while eating at our Market Places."
