Welcome to the Office of Residence Life. We're here to help students in almost all areas of their University and Residence Hall experience. From the RAs on each floor to our professional staff of hall and area coordinators, we are available for assistance virtually 24 hours a day.
Resident Assistants (RA)
RAs are student staff members, employed by University Housing, who assist students in their acclimation to the residence halls and the university. RAs provide information about activities, events, policies and also assist students with roommate conflicts, homesickness, and academic concerns. Each RA also plans social programs for students on his/her floor. A Resident Assistant is assigned to each floor in the residence halls. A Community Assistant (CA) is assigned to each University Housing Department area.
Your Resident Assistant is the best person to go to if you have questions or concerns. Your RA has received training on responding to concerns and can assist you with most any issue you may be having. In most cases, your RA can help you explore your concerns and refer you to the proper university staff to help you resolve your problem.
We are here to help. Below are examples of questions and problems with which your RA can help.
- My roommate and I don't get along.
- Where is Macbride Hall?
- How do I find out what's for dinner?
- Where do I go to pay my U-bill?
- I'm concerned about my chemistry class.
- I want to live somewhere else. How do I switch buildings?
- I was documented for a violation of the noise policy; what will happen when I speak to the Hall Coordinator?
A complete list of current RAs by Hall and Floor is available through the Phone Directory:

(Click on the 'Area Coordinators' Offices' heading to expand or collapse its contents, then locate your Neighborhood. RAs will be listed under there.)
If your RA is unavailable, there are staff members on-call 24 hours a day for general assistance, maintenance concerns and emergencies. Contact your 24-hour desk for assistance.
Area Coordinators
Area coordinators are full-time professionals who live in each neighborhood. Area coordinators are educated in student life issues and are responsible for maintaining safe and friendly residence halls. All have a masters degree in counseling, student development, or a related field. Area coordinators are responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the buildings and the grounds surrounding them. They train and supervise hall coordinators, counsel students with personal or behavioral problems, implement discipline, oversee building operations, and coordinate programming activities throughout the halls.

Some halls also have Graduate Assistant - Assistant Hall Coordinators who assist with running the halls.

During the academic year, desks are open 24-hours a day. Limited hours will vary from building to building over university holiday and vacation periods (eg. Thanksgiving and Spring Break).
