Associated Residence Halls

We would like to warmly welcome you to The University of Iowa residence halls! We hope that your residence hall experience establishes a solid foundation for your collegiate career. So, what exactly is Associated Residence Halls (ARH) and what can we do for you? ARH is run by student residents for student residents. We work with the nine individual residence hall governments and other campus organizations for the betterment of residence life on a campuswide level.

ARH takes pride in focusing on a high quality living experience for residents through hall improvements, developmental programs, and events. We also have the ability to create committees and policies crafted from what we find out residents would like to see. For example, the current guidebook you are using is the result of the ARH Guidebook Committee that went through the previous version of the guidebook and created a more user-friendly item.

ARH is directly linked to the individual residence hall governments within the nine residence halls. ARH focuses on system-wide and campus issues, allowing the individual residence hall governments time to directly focus on their specific halls. Getting involved in a residence hall government executive board is incredibly beneficial on a multitude of levels.

There is a wide array of diverse positions in residence hall government to develop leadership skills and gain experience in a possible career area that interests you. Also, the people you meet and the positive networking that is created is indeed priceless. Finally, you will experience the satisfaction of knowing your work has indeed improved a person's life. How can it be any better than that?

Residence hall government elections are held early in the year during fall semester. Feel free to directly contact me, anyone affiliated with ARH, or your resident assistant (RA) to learn more about such a stellar opportunity.

And remember, if you have an idea, concern, or any feedback pertaining to the residence halls, we would like to hear about it! By the way, ARH is your voice for the residence halls. Best wishes to you and to your success this school year.

Associated Residence Halls (ARH) is the student governing body for the residence halls. It is an active organization whose mission is to serve as an advocate for students. Please visit our website at www.uiarh.com for more information about ARH.
