Laundry Facilities

Washers and dryers are provided in each residence hall. The machines are operated using the ID Card. Laundry fees are payable from your Hawkeye Dollar account, or will be charged to your UBill if you are out of Hawkeye Dollars. Students are able to monitor their laundry and the status of laundry machines through a web browser at http://www.housing.uiowa.edu/departments/facilities/laundry.htm Refunds are also available through this link.

Living-Learning Communities

Living-learning communities at The University of Iowa create an opportunity for academics and student life to have a home together. Students who live in the living-learning communities live on the same floor with other students with the same or similar majors or interests. Most of these communities even enroll students in required common course so the residents will spend time together in class, and out-of-class time in groups discussing pertinent information learned in class. The living-learning communities encourage faculty interaction and offer a variety of educational opportunities to students outside the classroom. Research shows that students who live in organized living units around an academic theme are more likely to demonstrate significantly improved personal adjustment and intellectual growth, have more positive attitudes toward their college experiences, are more likely to complete their college programs, and have enhanced faculty/student relations (Upcraft, 1989).

Business and Entrepreneurship
This community is for students who would like to develop their leadership skills, and be active, involved participants in the community. Floor members earn one semester hour of credit through the Leadership Community-Academic Leadership Seminar. Through professional enrichment activities and academic skill enhancement, this helps students develop leadership skills.

Citizenship, Leadership, and Service Community(Justice & Diversity through Community Engagement)
Because public engagement is a University goal, too, students in the Citizenship, Leadership, and Service Living-Learning Community can immediately become a part of the University's mission. As a member of this community, you will be living and working with others who share your goal of working toward a better world.

Explorations in Computing, Mathematics & Science Community
The Explorations in Computing, Mathematics, and Science Living-Learning Community is a home base for students who want to explore math and science topics with faculty and students from a variety of disciplines, including computer science, geoscience, and mathematics.

Health Sciences Living-Learning Community
Students in this community seek to expand their knowledge of healthcare careers and topics, to develop insight and skills for the future, and to be active, involved participants in the residential and campus communities.

Healthy Living Network Community
Students in this community are committed to their health and choose a lifestyle that supports achieving their individual potential in all aspects of wellness-both mental and physical. Health and Sport Studies, Health Iowa/Student Health Service, and the Division of Recreational Services will support students through connections to faculty and staff and by providing healthy options for involvement, activities, and discussions.

Honors Community
Members of the Honors House at Kate Daum Hall have the opportunity to participate in challenging academic programs and activities planned with the help of Honors Program staff and students. They also have plenty of chances for fun. This dynamic community offers opportunities for leadership, social networking and cultural programming.

Honors Nexus
Members of the Honors Nexus will build on the academic interests of the students to develop and implement a research project, performance, or exhibit. The community will focus on developing intellectual, artistic and organizational abilities while initiating a lasting work with the assistance of faculty and staff.

International Crossroads Community
Both American and international students can choose to live in this community. Student in this community have the opportunity to broaden their knowledge of international issues, languages and cultures while living in a close-knit group.

Iowa Writers Community
IIowa is nationally known as "the writing university." Students living in the Iowa Writers Living-Learning Community will participate in a variety of activities focused on writing. They will attend readings and have the chance to talk with authors. Information on how best to prepare for a successful career in writing is also available.

Men in Engineering
Students who choose to live on the Men in Engineering floor aren't the type to sit in their rooms and study all day. They're the guys who can juggle being good students with playing sports, volunteering, and taking leadership roles in student organizations.

Performing Arts Living-Learning Community
At Iowa, students have always had a variety of opportunities to act, sing, dance, direct, play music, and express themselves creatively through Iowa's many performance activities and venues. This coed community serves a diverse group of actors, musicians, and dancers with easy access to the theatre and music buildings.

Women in Science & Engineering
The Women in Science & Engineering (WISE) Living-Learning Community assures you quiet living space and a built-in support system with others who share your interest in the sciences and desire to excel.

Lost and Found

Lost and found is located at each residence hall 24-hour desk. Items are kept for 30 days before being disposed.

Lounges

Requests for group usage of public/common space must be made in advance with the hall coordinator.
