Missing Student
Students are encouraged to identify a confidential contact on their confidential card. This
would be a person who would or should know their whereabouts and how to contact them in the
event others report the student as missing. This confidential contact person will be notified not
more than 24 hours into the investigation of a missing student. Students are encouraged to keep
their confidential contact person information up to date throughout the course of the year should it
change by going to the front desk of their residence hall.
Upon receiving notice that a student is missing, effort will be made to locate the student
through collaboration amongst the missing student's friends, family, Residence Life and
Department of Public Safety. Within 24 hours of the institution investigating the student's missing
status, the confidential contact the student has identified will be notified in an effort to ascertain
their whereabouts and/or contact the student. If not located within 24 hours and/or efforts made
within 24 hours do not result in the student being contacted or accounted for, appropriate family
members will be notified (regardless of emancipation status of the student) by The University of
Iowa Department of Public Safety.
Motorized Vehicles
Motorbikes, motorcycles, or any devices requiring the use of combustible fuels create fire
hazards and are not allowed to be ridden or stored in buildings at any time. If they are found in the
halls, they will be removed and stored at the owner's expense.
