The Constitution
of
the
Article I: Name
This organization shall be
entitled The University of Iowa Chapter of the National Residence Hall
Honorary of the National
Association of College and University Residence Halls, Incorporated.
Article II: Purpose
The purpose of this organization
shall be to provide recognition for those individuals living in the
residence halls that have
provided outstanding service and important leadership in the
advancement of the residence
hall system at The University of Iowa; and promote activities, which
encourage leadership qualities
in residents.
Article III: Membership
Section
A Qualifications for Nomination
1.
Shall have a minimum cumulative 2.0 grade point average at the completion of
one
semester.
2. Shall have resided in the residence halls during the
academic year of selection.
3.
Shall have exhibited leadership and service in the residence hall system
Section B Nominations
1.
Nominations must me made by one of the individuals listed below for the
nomination
to be approved by the organization.
2. A. Associated Residence Hall members
B. National Residence Hall Honorary Members
C. Department of Residence Services, including Resident Assistants
D. A person may nominate herself/himself
Section C Selection
1.
The Selection Committee will consist of the NRHH executive board, the President
of
ARH, the advisor to NRHH, and one Hall
Coordinator.
2.
The process of evaluation of the nomination forms will be left to the
discretion of the
Selection Committee.
3.
The Committee will meet to select new member during the Spring semester. Formal
invitations into the Honorary will be
delivered prior to finals.
4.
The active membership of NRHH shall not exceed one percent of the total numbers
of
residents in the residence hall on the
University of Iowa’s campus.
Section D Types of Membership
1. Active members shall be defined as
those who:
a. Are enrolled at the University of Iowa
and chosen by the Selection Committee
b. Must be an active member of an NRHH
committee
c. Must attend a set number of
meetings as specified by the NRHH house at the
beginning of the academic year. Members who cannot attend the set number
of meetings are still eligible for active
membership provided they are willing
to do what the current active members
feel is equivalent to attending the
minimum number of meetings.
2.
Alumni members shall be defined as former active members that have left the
university.
Article IV: Executive Structure
Section
A Nomination of Officers
1. Officers of NRHH shall be selected by
a majority vote of all active members present at
the last meeting held in the Spring
semester.
2. Following the election, new and old
officers will work together and transition to the
next school year.
Section B Officers and Duties
1.
The President of NRHH shall:
a. conduct and preside over meetings
called at her/his discretion
b.
attend ARH meetings when necessary
c.
meet with the advisor of NRHH every other week
d. coordinate with the Executive Board
and Committee Chairs
e.
serve as the official liaison to NACURH, Inc. and MACURH
f.
serve as the Committee Chair of the Of The Month Awards
g.
be in charge of reviewing the constitution yearly
h.
be in charge of reaffiliation with the NRHH National Office
i.
delegate additional responsibilities as needed
2. The Vice President of NRHH shall:
a.
preside over all meetings in the President’s absence
b.
run nomination and election process
c.
be in charge of the NRHH Spring Banquet
d.
be in charge of the NRHH Membership Selection process
e.
serve as the Community Service Committee Chair
3. The Secretary
of NRHH shall:
a.
maintain a file of all current minutes for the chapter
b.
maintain a record of members’ meeting and committee attendance
c.
be responsible for evaluation membership status each semester
d.
maintain the back files of NRHH information
e.
be in charge of scholarship criterion and the scholarship process
f.
be responsible for the publicity of NRHH sponsored events
g.
distribute a newsletter to all members
4. The Treasurer of NRHH shall:
a. submit a
yearly budget
b. maintain a
record of funds
c. serve as
Committee Chair of the Fundraising Committee
d. recruit
members for the fruit basket assembly each semester
e. develop new
fundraising ideas
5. The ARH Liaison of NRHH
shall:
a. attend all
ARH general house meetings
b. is the main
communication link between ARH and NRHH
c. facilitate
cooperative efforts between ARH and NRHH
d. serve on the
Of The Month Awards committee
e. submit
reports to Hallways as required
6. The terms of office shall be
one academic year.
Section
C Committees
1. Of The Month Awards Committee
The OTM Awards Committee shall…
A. facilitate the
operation of the Of The Month Awards program at the
University of Iowa.
This includes:
i.
promotion of OTM writing on campus through presentations,
attendance at other
organizations’ meetings, etc.
ii.
collection and submission of OTM’s to the Regional Associate
Director of NRHH.
iii.
feedback and recognition to those individuals, groups, and programs
that win an OTM on the campus, regional,
and national level.
iv.
feedback and recognition to those individuals who write OTM’s

discretion to determine the operation of the OTM program
2. Community Service Committee
The Community Service Committee shall…
A.
be responsible for planning and implementing community service projects for
this chapter of NRHH.
B.
determine the type of service learning to be done each semester
3. Fundraising Committee
The Fundraising Committee shall…
A.
plan and implement fundraising events for NRHH.
B.
have the discretion to determine the type of fundraising events done each
semester
Article V: Fees and Dues
Section A Chapter Dues
The NRHH Chapter of The University of
Iowa will pay $25.00 per year to the National Office of
the Honorary in order to retain
the chapter’s membership.
Article VI: Chapter Reports
Section
A At the beginning of each
academic year, a revised list of active members and chapter
goals shall be submitted to the
National Honorary Office.
Section B At the termination of each academic
year, the following shall be submitted to the
National Honorary Office:
1.
The reports of outgoing officers
2.
A list of new officers, active members, and initiates
3.
Other pertinent information requested by the National Honorary
Article VII: NRHH
Banquet
The NRHH will hold an annual banquet at
the time of initiation of new members into the NRHH.
Article VIII:
Relationships with Other
Organizations
The University of Iowa Chapter
of the National Residence Hal Honorary shall be considered and
recognized as an organization
separate and apart from ARH, yet cooperatively working toward
common goals of promoting and
improving residence hall life.
Article IX:
Amendments
Amendments to this constitution
may be adopted by quorum or two-thirds of the members present,
whichever is greater.
Article X:
Quorum
A quorum constitutes of one more
than half of the members
Article XI:
Enactment
The constitution will go into
effect after two-thirds majority vote of ARH and two-thirds majority
vote in the NRHH Chapter
