Position Summary:  Hawkeye Guides communicate with a wide range of new students and their families to prepare them for their transition to the University of Iowa. Duties include serving as a positive representative for the university, responding to questions about student life and resources at Iowa, and assisting students with the registration process. As a Hawkeye Guide, you will develop critical thinking, communication, group facilitation, stress management, and relationship development skills.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Current enrollment as a University of Iowa Student
24 semester hours or more earned by May 2016
UI and Cumulative GPA of 2.5  (1st year students must have a high school GPA of 3.5 or higher)
Ability to work effectively with groups and individuals with diverse backgrounds

Stipend and Benefits

$3400 Summer Stipend
Residence hall room provided from May 17 - July 23 (shared with another Orientation staff member)
2 semester hours of elective credit for the spring training program

Training Commitments

Spring - Must be available for Spring Semester Training Course - Meets every Wednesday from 3:45 to 6:30 pm

Summer - Summer training involves a full time daily commitment from May 16 - June 3

Program Commitments

Must be available from May 16 - July 22, 2016
13 two-day, first year summer orientation programs
8 one day, transfer programs during the spring and summer

Other Requirements

All applicants are required to attend a Mandatory Information Meeting on Wednesday, October 28 at 3:30 pm or 7:30 pm in the Illinois Room (in the Iowa Memorial Union)

Orientation staff members may not enroll in summer session classes

Orientation staff members may not hold outside employment after the spring semester unless approved by Orientation Services
