Be an engineer and something more! This community welcomes all engineering students who wish to excel academically through shared knowledge, build a strong support network, and have fun. You will be able to participate in several activities including social events, faculty networking dinners, service projects, special tours, and off-campus trips.

Programming for People in Engineering

Programming may vary from year to year. Past programs in this community have included:

  • Get invited to special dinners with engineering professors, alumni and student organizations
  • Volunteer with Habitat for Humanity
  • Tour unique and interesting spaces
    • Hydro-electric power plant
    • New residence hall construction
    • Rockwell Collins
    • UI Hospital
    • Proctor & Gamble
  • Meet with the Department of Transportation or the local Corps of Engineers.
  • Form teams and participate in intramural events


The course for Fall 2017 will be ENGR:1000:0001 Engineering Success for First-Year Students: This course is an introduction to engineering student life; electronic resources; keys to and skills for success; coping with adversity; selecting a major; advising; curriculum choices and career objectives; ethics; communication; internships and co-ops; job search skills.

This community is open to all students with a major in the College of Engineering.
