Should you bring your car to campus? Experience says no. Parking space on or near campus is at a premium—either very expensive to get, or else unavailable. And, the campus has been designed such that walking or taking Cambus is easier—and much less expensive—than trying to drive and park.
Registering Your Car with the University
Per the State of Iowa Board of Regents, students at the University of Iowa are required to register their vehicles with Parking Services within 48 hours of bringing it to campus.
For information about registering your vehicle, contact Parking Services.
Due to flood mitigation, the Mayflower parking lot will not issue parking for the 2013-14 academic year.
Parklawn Hall has a limited number of student parking spaces available for an additional fee. Residents of Parklawn may contact UI Parking and Transportation for further information (see contact information above.)
University Apartments Parking
Only University Apartments lease holders are allowed to park in the Hawkeye Drive parking lots. Tenants are asked to register their car(s) with the University Apartments Office when they sign their lease. There is a limit of two parking permits per apartment.
Hawkeye Storage Lot
The university provides a for-fee storage lot on the far west side of campus for students in the residence halls who need their cars as transportation to and from the university. The Hawkeye-Interdorm Cambus route connects the residence halls to this storage lot, but it would be very inconvenient for everyday use. It can be as much as 40 minutes by bus from your residence hall to your car.
For information about obtaining a space in the Hawkeye Storage Lot, contact Parking Services.
Parking Stickers & Prox Cards
Students are issued stickers and prox cards to park in the residence hall parking lots located at Mayflower or Parklawn Halls. If you cancel or transfer your housing contract during the academic year, you must return your parking sticker and your parking lot gate key to avoid continued charges for parking. Mayflower and Parklawn residents who cancel or transfer must remove the sticker carefully so that the ID numbers are still intact, and return it and the parking lot gate key to the Parking Office in the IMU Ramp. At the end of the year, Mayflower and Parklawn residents should return their parking prox card to their front desk. Centerstone, Dubuque House, and Bloomington House parking is managed through University Housing & Dining. If you cancel or transfer your housing contract during the academic year, you must return your parking sticker to avoid continued charges for parking. Centerstone, Dubuque House, and Bloomington House residents who cancel or transfer must remove the sticker carefully so that the ID numbers are still intact, and return it to University Housing & Dining at 4141 Burge Hall.
