Summer Housing & Meal Plan Rates

Summer housing is located in Daum Hall on the 1st through 4th floors from May 16 to August 6, 2016.  Most students will live in a double occupancy room with bathrooms down the hall.  There are a few single occupancy rooms, double rooms with a private bathroom, and triple occupancy rooms.  Each student is required to have a meal plan to use in the Iowa Memorial Union (May 16 – June 5) and then in Burge Hall (June 6 to August 5). 


Any University of Iowa student enrolled in 1 credit over the summer is eligible to live in summer housing.  You may live with University Housing & Dining for the entire summer even if your course is only 4 weeks long. 

Students who are interning at the University of Iowa may be eligible to live with University Housing; they must have an Iowa OneCard and university billing account.  Please contact the Contracts & Assignments office if you have questions regarding eligibility. 


To submit your summer housing application, use your Hawk ID and password to login to: You will verify your personal information, indicate room type preferences and the session(s) you would like to live in housing, and provide your move-in and move-out dates.  The application will remain open from March 28 to June 27, 2016.

ADA Accommodations

Students with a need for disability or medical accommodations to their room assignment or meal plan should submit a Reasonable Request for Accommodations by May 1, 2016 for consideration.  University Housing & Dining will work to meet any accommodation submitted after May 1 as space allows.

Room Assignments

Assignments are made in the order that a student’s application was received and is subject to availability.  Students will be notified in early May of their room assignment, roommate information (if available), and check in and check out dates. 

Room Types & Rates

Students are billed on a daily basis for their room.  The chart below provides check-in and check-out dates if you only live in summer housing during that particular session.  You may arrive earlier than your academic session or stay later as space allows.  Please indicate your preferred move-in and move-out dates on your application for full consideration.

Meal Plans

All students living in summer housing are required to have a meal plan. 

  • 200 Meal Block: $1380.00
  • 150 Meal Block: $1110.00   
  • 100 Meal Block: $795.00
  • 50 Meal Block: $425.00

Meal swipes will be redeemable at the following locations:

IMU River Room Café – May 16 to May 27 and May 31 to June 1: 7:00am to 6:00pm
IMU Union Station – June 2 to June 5: 7:00am to 6:00pm
Clinton Street Market

Room Furnishings

Each student room is furnished with a bed, mattress and pad (size: twin extra long), draperies, trash can, recycling bin, sink, mirror, desk with chair, and air conditioning.  Wired and wireless internet access is provided, along with cable TV access. 
Beds in the rooms will either be lofted or bunked.  Please note that in preparation for Fall 2016, some double rooms may have three sets of furniture which will remain in the room all summer.

  • Laundry Facilities: student ID operated; $1.50 per load to wash and $1.00 per load to dry

Interim Housing

Students who live with University Housing & Dining in spring or fall semesters may sign up for interim housing for an additional fee.  

  • Spring to Summer Interim Housing: $30.00 per day from May 14 to May 16 with no meals provided. 
  • Summer to Fall Interim Housing: $30 per day from August 6 to August 13 with no meals provided.  $45.00 per day from August 14 to August 20 with meals provided.
