Supplemental Instruction

Supplemental Instruction in the Residence Halls

Supplemental Instruction (SI) helps you figure out how to be successful in your course. You'll meet with a fellow student (an SI leader) who successfully completed the course, compare notes with other students, discuss readings, get organized, and predict and prepare for test items. The SI leader attends all class lectures and takes notes, so you can be sure that your leader knows what’s going on in your class and is working with the professor. The sessions are informal, so you can come and go as you please throughout the entire semester. All SI sessions are free.

Course offers for Supplemental Instruction have included but are not limited to:

  • Elementary Psychology
  • General Chemistry 1
  • General Chemistry 2
  • Principles of Chemistry 1

SI sessions in or near the University of Iowa residence halls have been held in Quad Hall and Rienow Hall, but could be held in many additional locations. We also utilize classroom space near the residence halls on the west side of campus.

Supplemental Instruction (SI) is a service offered through many offices on the University of Iowa campus. Residence Education began offering in-hall or near-hall SI sessions in the fall of 2012.
