Work Request

If the heat's not on, the toilet runs, or anything else is not right with your apartment, please let us know right away. Our maintenance staff is ready to help.

During Office Hours

Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., maintenance staff will respond to work requests through a written maintenance work order that is issued by the office. If you need repairs to your apartment electrical service, plumbing, heating system, windows, locks, or other items, call (319-335-9199) or come to the office to complete a maintenance work order. A feedback copy of the work order will be left in your apartment after maintenance has responded. The feedback copy will note that either the work has been completed or the reason staff were unable to complete the work. If the work is not completed to your satisfaction, call the University Apartments Office to explain the problem. Because of the unpredictable workload, it is not possible for the office to make appointments for mechanics to be in your apartment at a specified time to perform maintenance work. We make an effort to do all work as soon as possible.

After Hours

If you encounter a maintenance issue that requires immediate assistance after regular University Apartment Office Office hours, contact the community assistant on-call at 319-325-4747. If you are unable to reach this number, you may call the 24-hour West Campus desk at 319-335-9170. If the staff person on call determines that your maintenance problem cannot wait until the next day, a University Apartments mechanic will come to your apartment. If it is discovered that repairs are necessary due to carelessness and/or neglect, you will be charged for 3-hours minimum of labor and parts.

Pest Control

Each apartment will receive a pest control treatment twice a year. Additional pest control treatment is available free of charge on Tuesdays and Thursdays. If you notice any pests, contact the University Apartments Office as soon as possible.

Insects and other pests are not a major problem in University Apartments, thanks in large part to the work of the custodial staff.

Reporting Pest Problems

If you see roaches, silverfish, mice, or any other insect or vermin in your room, report it to the University Apartments Office as soon as possible. Pest control will respond within 48 hours. You should make sure your room is clean and no food, empty cans, or bottles have been left out. Bring a sample or a good description of the insect or vermin to the office. This will help pest control to treat the problem.

Preventing Pest Problems

Many pests (i.e., roaches, silverfish, and mice) that may inhabit your room do so in search of food, water, or a safe harbor. To help avoid pest problems in your room keep your room as clean as possible at all times, do not leave food out, do not collect empty cans and bottles in your room, and make sure trash is disposed of often. Also be cautious of any items such as cardboard boxes that you may bring into the building. Many times, insects or insect eggs are transported into the buildings via these containers.
