Frequently Asked Questions for Honors housing

Why did Honors housing move to Catlett?

Honors housing relocated to allow Daum Hall to be used to support a variety of students beyond the Honors community. Honors student interest in living in Daum has fluctuated over the past few years, and the move will benefit many student populations. University Housing and Dining coordinated with the Honors program to create an academic community on several floors in Catlett.

Who can live in Honors housing in Catlett?

New Hawkeyes that have been accepted to the Honors program are eligible to live within the Honors Housing Community in Catlett Hall. Students that are offered placement within the community will have the opportunity to request a fellow Honors student within their acceptance or search for a random Honors student within the roommate matching tool. After accepting your placement, students will be able to view other students who also accepted their placement into the community.

Can I request a roommate in Honors housing?

Yes! You can request a roommate in Honors housing. Both students must be participants in the Honors program. All application and housing deadlines must be met in order to live together.

Can I still live in Daum Hall if I am an Honors student?

Yes! Honors students live in all of our residence halls.

Am I required to live in Catlett if I am an Honors student?

No. Honors Housing in Catlett cannot accommodate all incoming Honors students and you are welcome to live in any hall on campus. Options will be dictated by your room selection number, Living Learning Community preferences, and roommate requests.

Can I participate in Honors housing activities as an Honors student living in another building?

The Honors Program hosts a number of events for the entire Honors community throughout the year – please watch invitations for details about how to participate!

Why only 200 spaces reserved in Catlett?

We will have full floors designated for Honors housing in Catlett Hall to encourage an academic environment. This number is comparable to the number of first-year Honors students living in Daum Hall the past few years.

Can I join an LLC as an Honors student?

Yes, Honors students can join Living Learning Communities (LLCs). Students accepted to an LLC will live on the floor designated for that particular community, not in Honors housing.

Can I apply for Honors housing and an LLC?

Students can apply for either Honors housing or a Living Learning Community. However, students in the Honors Program are not required to live within Honors housing and can apply to live in an LLC.

As a reminder, students in roommate groups must all be offered placement (and accept!) within the same community and meet housing deadlines in order to live together.

Can returning students live in the Honors community in Catlett?

We are not accepting returning students to  Honors housing for 2025-2026. However, the Honors Program hosts a number of events for the entire Honors community throughout the year so you can still stay connected with your peers. Watch your email for invitations and event information!
