Staying on Campus?

Housing is available during winter break and a $300 required charge to be assessed for staying all or part of break. Apply for winter break housing by 12:00 p.m. (noon), Wednesday, December 18 to qualify. Apply online at My UI by clicking on the housing application button. No refund will be issued if you cancel Winter Break housing after 12:00 p.m. (noon), December 18, 2019.

Please Note: Students must be registered for spring courses in order to able to qualify to live in the residence halls during winter break. You are not allowed to loan your keys out to other students or guests. Students needing to arrive on or after January 11, will incur an early arrival fee of $35/day.

How to Apply

If you are a student who is in need of a housing accommodation over winter break, you may sign up at a cost of $300.00. Only students who register for Winter Break housing can stay in the building. This cost is for the whole break, regardless of how many nights you stay in your room. There are no daily charges for winter break housing.

Additionally, there is an option to sign up for a weekend stay for winter break. You are able to stay until Monday, December 23 at 12:00 p.m. The cost is $70.00. To sign up to stay additional days, you will need to sign up for winter break housing and pay the fee of $300.

Please note:

  • All students must apply online for Winter Break housing. The application will close at 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Wednesday, December 18.
  • If you need to cancel your winter break application after you submit it, the deadline to cancel is 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Wednesday, December 18. This is a firm deadline. You will be billed for break housing after this time, and exceptions will not be made.
  • There is no meal service during winter break, as market places are closed. You will be responsible for providing your own meals over the winter break. 
  • No guests are allowed during the break. Only registered students living in their permanent assignment will be allowed in the residence halls during this period. 
  • Student athletes who are in season and will be practicing or competing over break must also apply for housing online using the link above.  Please note, your coach cannot submit an application for you.
  • If you are a University Housing and Dining employee (e.g. a residence hall desk clerk) who will be working over break and living in the halls, you must still sign up for housing. Inform your supervisor to notify our staff that you will be working.
