What you'll learn as a desk clerk
Desk Clerks assist in the day-to-day operations and provide excellent customer service at a residence hall front desk. You can expect to learn skills such as time management, conflict resolution, balancing priorities, attention to detail, interpersonal communication, customer service experience and how to work as part of a team.
New in 2025: we're hiring for a 24-hour summer desk clerk position! Hone your customer service skills by interacting with students, camp and conference guests, assisting them in navigating the halls and Iowa campus this summer. This position is active from May 19 to August 1. Applicants must be willing to work shifts on weekends, overnight, and holidays (Memorial Day, Independence Day).

Information sessions
Informational sessions are meetings in which you will learn more about the desk clerk position. Bring your questions and stop by our tables outside the market places on March 12 (Catlett, 5-7 p.m.), March 24 (Burge, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.), or March 27 (Hillcrest, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.).
